Just For Foodies!

This area is just for foodies. Memorable meals add to the travel experience! Plan them well. When you travel, it’s important to look for places where the locals eat. Look for  smaller menus reflecting local flavors and cuisine using fresh ingredients. Today, many restaurants can be found online. Current reviews are often available on sites like Trip Advisor. If you have the time in a port of call to try a restaurant you’ll find it can truly enhance your experience.

Sometimes cruise lines will offer suggestions for places to eat ashore, if they are consistent and very good. When considering your options, don’t discount a place for having a low end website. Many places have what I would call a bare bones presence online, with an antiquated website or perhaps only a Facebook page. This is just fine. We have dined in many places like this.

Where To Dine

The question of where to dine has always been important to anyone on vacation. Meals help to make traveling experiences more memorable. There are two camps; those who will eat local foods and those who won’t. Before I dive down the rabbit hole with my personal views regarding dining away from home, I’ll simply say it’s your vacation. Do as you like. However having said that, I simply must also say, when in Rome do as the Roman do.

BB’s Crabback – Grenada

We were super excited to visit Grenada, and had heard so much about the spice island and BB’s Crabback. Our ship docked on a Saturday, which is apparently the day of the week that most shops are closed. But we remained upbeat and determined to find hidden treasures and have a memorable day. This we did!

Punto de Vista Restaurant – San Juan, Puerto Rico

One of the times that we visited San Juan, Puerto Rico we arrived mid afternoon and decided to dine at Punto de Vista. The Anthem of the Seas didn’t depart until later in the evening, so we decided to have dinner ashore. This allowed us a rare opportunity to try one of the local hot spots for some alfresco rooftop dining. After doing some online research we decided to try Punto de Vista Restaurant. Luckily we had the good sense to arrive early as reservations are not accepted there. We were fortunate enough to get seated right away, and settled in for the evening.

Jamie’s Italian Restaurant

If you are sailing on a Royal Caribbean ship that offers Jamie’s Italian Restaurant as one of the extra dining options, we suggest you give it a try. It was worth the extra coin spent. Everything is served to be shared, and you can order anything at all that you like. Our waiter, Foued, listened intently to what we liked, didn’t like and what our dietary restrictions were. Next Foued went back to the kitchen and explained it to the Chef who put together wonderful planks for our waiter to bring out to us.
